The British company has presented an ambitious strategic plan to become a larger volume manufacturer with a presence on practically all continents and also with a catalog that will be made up exclusively of electric models much earlier than expected.

Yesterday was a very special day for Lotus Cars, because after several years of projects and studies they have finally revealed the elaborate planning they have developed to become a manufacturer of greater volume, which will also have a catalog exclusively made up of electric vehicles before Let this decade end.

Although the main novelty was the Lotus Emira, the latest gasoline-fueled model presented by the brand and which is called to replace its entire current range, the truth is that the announcement of this sports car took a lot of prominence from the other announcements made by the British brand, which in perspective are much more remarkable, since they basically represent the biggest turn of the wheel that the Hethel manufacturer will suffer in its more than 70 years of history.

Since Lotus became part of the Geely Group, we have not stopped hearing that the company is preparing numerous novelties and plans to become a larger volume manufacturer, but until now we did not know the scope of the measures that are going to be implemented. and that will affect all divisions of the company. From the R&D department to the brand's commercial network and even Lotus Engineering, its famous engineering consultancy, will undergo notable changes in the coming years.

We can describe this great transformation in 3 main points: product, infrastructure and sales. The first of these is the most obvious, as it is no secret that the Lotus model range is going to change radically, because in addition to the arrival of the monstrous electric Lotus Evija with +2,000 hp, all current products of the company will disappear in favor of a new mid-engined sports car that was just announced today, in addition to the SUV we've been waiting for years.

The backbone of this new range will be 4 platforms that will be the basis of the Lotus catalog. One of the platforms is called ‘Hypercar’ and as is evident it is the one used by the current Evija. The other is called ‘Sportscar’ (internally called Elemental) and is an evolution of the aluminum architecture of the Evora and that remarkably evolved will be the basis of the future Lotus Emira. The other two architectures will be the 'Electric Sportscar' and 'Premium' (also called Evolution), destined respectively for the future electric sports car models of the brand and what Lotus calls "Lifestyle vehicles", an expression that can only correspond to the models of crossover cut, of which at the moment we only have confirmation of one.

A very important detail is that the Lotus Emira has been presented as the last gasoline-powered model from Lotus, so we can assume that future models - including the SUV - will be electric. As confirmed by the brand, from 2028 Lotus will exclusively manufacture models powered by batteries. So the Lotus Emira will only be in production for a few years.

Infrastructure and sales

Regarding its infrastructure, Lotus has also confirmed that it has not only improved its facilities in Great Britain, but has also re-announced the future construction of a plant in China, which we assume will serve as an assembly line for the higher volume models , like for example its future SUV.

In terms of sales, Lotus expects to exceed 100,000 units per year, but this is only a portion of what it hopes to achieve between now and 2028. The company has not revealed specific figures, but we do pay attention to some forecast charts published yesterday, the company expects to double or triple its production before the end of this decade. Obviously, for this you need more than sports cut models and have a high-selling model such as a crossover. In the same way, an ambitious commercial plan has also been announced that contemplates creating a wider network of dealers and the possibility of purchasing vehicles online.

In any case, the first of these new models will be presented this summer and we hope that it will reach the market before the end of the year, after which the electric Evija will arrive and it will be assumed that the first crossover will also be announced shortly. of the company.
