Colombia - March 2021: overwhelming victory of the Mazda CX-30

In March 2021, new car sales in Colombia totaled 22,933 units, which compared to the same period of the previous year represents a strong growth of 86.6%. The Mazda CX-30 clearly leads the Colombian market.

The Colombian car market has been able to end the negative streak that started this year. In March 2021, car sales in Colombia reached 22,933 units. This volume of units, if compared with that obtained in the same period of the previous year, represents a strong growth of 86.6%. Now, much of that rise is unreal. Let's go into detail.

If we look back and set our sights on March 2020, we will find that, for much of that month, a series of measures were imposed in order to face the coronavirus pandemic. This meant, ultimately, the cessation of commercial activity. What's more, the Colombian market recorded a historic drop in new car sales.

This fact, which is not minor, also has direct effects on the accumulated period of this year. And it is that, between January and March, the registrations of new cars in Colombia have accounted for 56,971 units, 11.1% more than with respect to the first quarter of 2020.

Mazda CX-30, the best-selling car in Colombia in March 2021

And what have been the most popular models? The ranking of the best-selling cars in Colombia during March leaves us with more than one remarkable performance. The victory goes to the Mazda CX-30. It was the first choice when buying a car. Since its introduction in the Colombian market, Mazda's SUV has been reporting very good sales figures, clearly positioning itself as the best-selling model of the South Korean firm in those parts.

In second place is the Chevrolet Onix and, closing the podium, in third place, we have the Renault Kwid. At the gates of the podium is the KIA Picanto, a model whose performance has also been remarkable. What's more, it struggles monthly to be the best-selling urban car in Colombia. It is not easy at all since the Kwid is one of the best cheap cars that we can find in those dealerships.

If we go on to analyze the list of the best-selling car brands, there are no changes compared to February. The first place is for Renault. Right behind, we have Chevrolet and Mazda in second and third positions.
